Investing in sustainable and responsible ways is making historic strides. Bloomberg published an article in 2021 projecting that the market will be worth $50 trillion by 2025. The Global Sustainable Investment Alliance (GSIA) reports that sustainable investments considering ESG aspects worth more than $35 trillion in 2020 represent more than 35% of global assets under management in the regions GSIA covers.

Decision-making Data is Easily Accessible

Investors rely on a number of resources to help them make their SRI and ESG decisions, and any investor can take advantage of such useful, insightful resources. While there are dozens ofresources, ten of the most popular and respected are cited below.

SRI Resources

The US Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (USSIF) publishes a handy guide, Sustainable Investing Basics – which includes definitions, strategies, growth rates and other helpful information. The CFA Institute of professional investment managers offers its comprehensive introduction for ESG investors, A Guide to ESG Investing for Investment Professionals and the GSI Alliance maps the ESG global market, with regional data, in its Global Sustainable Investment Review.

ESG Resources

Kiplinger’s ranked the ESG resources at the nonprofit As You Sow as #1 in the industry. The widely used Morningstar offers multiple resources, including a comprehensive ESG Screener and the insightful Morningstar Sustainable Investing Framework.

Faith-based Resources

Investopedia’s A Guide to Faith-based investing  provides a quick overview of the faith-based approach, an SRI strategy based on ethics and religious guidelines. A great follow-up resource to that introduction is Zug guidelines – which covers guidance based on eight of the world’s most popular faiths.

Long-term Data Studies (Meta Studies)

The basics you need to know are concisely covered in the aptly titled Need-To-Know-Guide, from the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN). Take a deeper dive by checking out the Learning Hub of the Impact Investing Institute, for both individual and professional investors. Professionals will be especially interested in its resources about how to communicate about SRI/ESG to investor clients.
